Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator – это приложение, позволяющее пользователям Windows создавать раскладки клавиатуры, содержащие различные символы.

I recently I have created my custom layout (by changing a few items in existing standard keyboard) using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator v 1.4. Then I pressed Project / Build dll and setup package — so I created installer, then clicked on setup and installed
a layout. It works perfectly the way I expected but the problem is:
After installing a layout, my reboot process became to take more time, I checked up event logs and found this
«Application popup: wininit.exe — Bad Image : C:WINDOWSsystem32UkrQuad.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator
or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000428. «
UkrQuad.dll is dll automatically installed by layout setup.

The time increases for about 36 seconds.
Of course there is no malware on my pc and I’m using the latest win10 updates (build 10586.420). I even tried installing this layout on clear virtual machine with windows 10, the same error occurred although time consumption was about 10 seconds, but the text
of the error in event viewer was the same.
Interesting thing that pc reboots fine with no blue screens and layout also works fine, but this error still annoys me.
Could anybody help?

The process stopped/ definitions. Same error messages. I stored the source double usage of characters w/i different maps (shift/ ctrl/ …).
Unicode file (latein.klc) at the desktop. As a test, I then loaded the unchainged file for Lithuanion no positive result possible.

Click Start, click Control Panel, and Several months ago, using MKLC, I created a 2nd keyboard («English-Custom») along with a Language and I can’t get the new «Custom-Custom» into the Language Bar.
Under Preferences, then double-click Regional and Language Options. Select the Show the Language bar services and input languages, click Details. Now
(a) the Language Bar only shows the old «Custom» Pro — works perfectly.
Bar to toggle between my reg keyboard and the new English-Custom Keyboard — worked great.

I’m using the latest. I just sent the keyboard to your maibox file but
I don’t think it’s tied to the keyboard file itself. I tried with
multiple layouts.

Yep, got it. But I cannot repro the problem….
Out of curiousity, what is your user locale? I would not expect this to make
a difference but we do use the C runtime and one never knows what it will
do, right?

Ok, we found out the problem (well, Patrick put in most of the skull sweat!
<grin>).
The problem is on a system with 8.3 file names (aka short file names)
disabled — since the default install dir is in «Program Files» and has
other spaces in the app dir, the tool converts to short file names for the
compile, which obviously fails when short file names are disabled. The
workaround would be to install MSKLC to a directory that does not have
spaces in the path.

I tried to find out whether my system (Win 8) had 8.3 names disabled or not but could not find it. Turns out it was a lot faster to simply copy the contents of the MSKLC folder into a folder without spaces or long names (I used C:keysmsklc) and run msklc.exe from there. Now it works. (I am going to uninstall the installed version of MSKLC so double clicking on a KLC file doesn’t open the installed version.)
For an official MS product I think this is rather shameful.

Hello,
Display of fonts with glyphs of Unicode ranges from hex-10000 upwards.
(Example glyphs of Unicode ranges from hex-10b00 to hex-10b3f (Avestan)
and from hex-10b78 to hex-10b7f (Inscriptional Pahlavi))
They are not displayed correctly in Microsoft features like Word or managed in Keyboard Layout Creator?

In Unicode Code Unicode 6.0.0_6.1_6.2_6.3_7.0.0-8.0 there are many glyphs from ranges hex-10000 (Linear B Syllabary)
up to hex-e01ef (Variation Selectors Supplement).
As far as I can see the above mentioned problems are not yet solved neither in Windows 8.1
nor in the newest version of Windows 10.
What’s the matter? Why these difficulties with these Unicode Code ranges?
Does Office 365 or Office 2016 support these above described Unicode ranges ?
E.g. Keyboards for Avestan, Inscriptional Pahlavi, Linear B Syllabary and so on?
Until today — since some years ago — I’m still waiting getting these problems being solved in Microsoft’s features, but how and when?

Ok, the rather obvious workaround is to install MSKLC into a custom folder having no blanks, i.e. something like c:msklc.
Doing so, everything works as expected.

Indeed, it works now.
My MSKLC was not even installed in the Programmes folder but in « My Documents », in the same folder together with the keyboards.
Moved it to « C: » and then everything perfect.

Yess, thanks a lot for clearing it up! To summarize the fix, I just had to move the app from «C:Program Files (x86)Mincrosoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4» to «C:msklc14» (as Administrator). Works like a charm, no reinstall was needed.

The problem still exists in 2022. Microsoft, you should be ashamed.
I am using the decade-old Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4 to create a custom keyboard. I have validated my keyboard within the software and no problems arose. I have also tested my keyboard (multiple times within the software) to make sure the corresponding base and shift keys are functioning properly. However, when I click the button under project to
«Build DLL and setup Package»
I get the following message:
«There was a problem building the keyboard file. Would you like to see warning/error information?»
After choosing «yes», I am presented with the following:
CL.EXE returned 1
RC.EXE returned 1
LINK.EXE returned 1
And an unsuccessful attempt at creating the keyboard layout.
Also, the «There was a problem building the keyboard file» message pops up 4 times. Clicking yes each time brings the same result as the above.
I am a noob in coding and do not know what any of this means, except that all of the 3 programs have returned a «No.»

Hello,
I have made a custom layout on my keyboard on the keyboard layout creator 1.4 but anything I put on vk_oem_102 the key next to the left shift key on iso layouts yields the error message saying that the key is not defined elsewhere and that it may not be present on all keyboards. When I simply hover the key before trying to validate, there is already the message ****NOT PRESENT ON ALL KEYBOARDS****. I used VIA to configure my pcb and I tried multiple keys on that spot but it just doesn’t want to work. I have also tried changing the keyboard language in the project properties but that didn’t help… Does anybody know how I can make that key work it does work if I use a classic preconfigured french layout without going through the layout creator, but not the caracters I want

1. What is the version of Windows that you are using?
Based on my search, I see that the Microsoft Keyboard Layout creator is applicable for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1, and Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Here is the
system requirements information for Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator 1.4Follow the below steps, and try to install the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator.
1. Press ‘Windows key + R’ to open ‘Run Command’.
2. Type ‘appwiz.cpl’ without quotes, and press enter.
3. In the ‘Programs and features’ window, click on ‘Turn Windows features on or off’.
4. Enable ‘.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)’ option.
5. Click on ‘OK’.
Follow the on-screen prompts, and restart the system if required. This will install the .NET Framework feature. Try to install the MS Keyboard Layout Creator, and check.
